FoodTruth ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the FoodTruth mobile application ("App").



1. Information We Collect


1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address — used for authentication and account recovery
  • Password — stored securely by Firebase Authentication (we never see your raw password)

    • 1.2 Health & Body Information

    You voluntarily provide:

  • Name, age, gender
  • Weight and height
  • Health goal (lose / maintain / gain weight)
  • Health conditions (e.g. diabetes, hypertension, thyroid) — entered as free text

    • This information is used solely to personalise your food scores and AI diet advice.


    1.3 Food & Nutrition Data

  • Food photos you capture or upload for analysis
  • Meal logs — food name, brand, calories, macros, health score, date and time
  • This data is stored on your device and synced to your private cloud account

    • 1.4 Voice Data

    If you use the voice input feature in Foodie AI Chat:

  • Voice audio is processed locally by your device's built-in speech recognition
  • We do not record, store, or transmit your voice audio to our servers

    • 1.5 Usage Data

    We do not collect analytics, crash reports, or usage statistics beyond what Firebase Authentication logs for security purposes.



    2. How We Use Your Information

    3. Data Storage & Security


    On Your Device

    All meal logs and your health profile are stored locally on your device using the app's private storage. This data remains on your device even without an internet connection.


    Cloud Storage (Firebase Firestore)

    Your meal history and health profile are synced to Google Firebase Firestore under your unique user ID. Only you can access your data — our Firestore security rules enforce strict user-level access control.


    Food Photos

    Food images are:

    1. Compressed to reduce size before processing

    2. Sent to Google's Gemini API for analysis

    3. Not stored on our servers or in your cloud account — only the analysis result is saved


    Security Measures

  • All data transmitted over HTTPS (TLS)
  • Firebase Authentication handles credential security
  • Firebase ID tokens expire and auto-refresh
  • No cleartext traffic permitted

    5. Data Retention


  • Account data: retained until you delete your account
  • Meal logs: retained until you clear data within the app or delete your account
  • Health profile: retained until you delete your account or clear it in settings
  • Food photos: not retained — deleted immediately after AI analysis


    • 6. Your Rights


    You have the right to:


  • Access your data — all your data is visible within the app
  • Edit your data — update your health profile in Profile settings anytime
  • Delete your data — use "Clear All Data" in Profile settings to delete all meal logs
  • Delete your account — contact us to permanently delete your account and all associated data
  • Data portability — your meal data is stored in standard JSON format within the app


    • 7. Children's Privacy


    FoodTruth is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.



    8. Health Disclaimer


    FoodTruth provides nutritional information and AI-generated dietary suggestions for informational purposes only. This app is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult a qualified healthcare provider before making significant changes to your diet, especially if you have a medical condition.



    9. Changes to This Policy


    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
